Why standing all day hurts
If you stand for a living — nursing, teaching, hospitality, retail, hairdressing, factory or trade work — foot pain affects your whole day. Prolonged standing loads the same structures continuously, with little of the recovery that walking's natural movement provides. The result is often arch ache, burning across the ball of the foot, heel pain, and fatigue that creeps into the knees and lower back by the end of a shift.
What actually helps people on their feet all day
Footwear first. Supportive, cushioned, properly-fitting shoes make the biggest single difference — worn-out shoes are a common hidden cause.
Orthotic support. Insoles that distribute load more evenly across the foot reduce the concentrated pressure that causes ache and fatigue. For many people who stand all day, this is the difference between sore feet every evening and getting through a shift comfortably.
Off-the-shelf vs bespoke. A quality cushioned insole helps many people and is worth trying. But if you have an underlying foot type (flat feet, high arches) or existing pain, bespoke orthotics matched to your foot — and to the footwear you actually wear at work, which your podiatrist assesses in person during your home visit — often help where generic insoles haven't — though published head-to-head evidence comparing custom and off-the-shelf insoles is mixed, which is why your consultation gives you an honest recommendation either way.
Why durability matters more for standing jobs
This is the point most people miss. Cheap EVA foam insoles compress and lose their support within weeks to months under all-day use. Our orthotics are 3D-printed in renewable PA11 biopolymer at an ISO 13485-certified UK lab, with glue-free construction and refreshable top covers — built to hold their therapeutic shape for years, not weeks. For heavy daily wear, that durability often makes the £399 work out better value than repeatedly replacing insoles that flatten.
When to see your GP
Persistent pain, swelling, or numbness that doesn't ease with rest and better footwear should be assessed. Diabetic? See your GP before self-treating foot pain.
